WCAG Contrast Auditor

WCAG Contrast Auditor is a browser extension for Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers. It analyzes the currently active webpage for WCAG text contrast issues, highlights failing text, creates screenshots for audit evidence, and exports a local Excel report.

Data Collection

WCAG Contrast Auditor does not collect, sell, rent, transfer, or share personal data with the developer or third parties. The extension does not operate a backend service and does not transmit scan results to external servers.

What the Extension Accesses

The extension accesses webpage content only when you use it on the active tab in order to inspect colors, calculate WCAG contrast ratios, highlight failing elements, create local screenshots, and generate a downloadable Excel report.

Local Storage

The extension stores the latest scan result for the active tab in browser extension storage so the popup can show results and export the report. Stored data may include page title, page URL, scan timestamp, text snippets, calculated contrast data, and generated screenshots. This data remains local to your browser profile unless you export the report yourself.

No Remote Processing

• No external API calls for scan results

Permissions Rationale

• activeTab: used to analyze only the tab you are currently auditing
• scripting: used to inject the scanner into the active page only when needed
• storage: used to keep the latest local scan result available in the popup
• downloads: used to save the generated Excel report to your device
• tabs: used to identify and message the active browser tab for scan actions

User Control

You control when the extension runs. The extension starts a scan only after you open the popup and trigger a page scan.
